No but I knew he about the jist of it.
When I was a little fellow their was this conservative bookshop called “Western Destiny Publications”.
It had conspiracy-theory books as well as free enterprise ones since in those days conspiracy theorists tended to be of the right. Totally different from now.
Anyhow I managed to get hold of the Ludwig Von Mises lecture series published by Hillsdale College. And he was there and so I knew he was a smart bloke..
Now the essays of his were from well before he became President. But I was reading them right at the start of his Presidency. So I knew this idea that he wasn’t a really smart guy was just untenable.

Yeah it’s surprising. I used to think he was really dumb too. There was this interview he did with Reason magazine when he was governor where he claimed to have read Von Mises and when I saw that I nearly fell off my chair.

He was a genius. From an early age he was really short-sighted but he kept it a secret.
Not long ago someone was talking about how everyone was talking about how George Bush The Younger was dumb…. Anyway this guy rings George Bush The Younger up and tells him that this is the press he was getting. And Bush says “THATS GOOD”….
Every time these guys whip their opposition since they fall for their own propaganda.
George Bush is a very intelligent man. At least he is tons smarter then those on the left who so smugly and automatically assume they are his intellectual betters.
But then he’s no Reagan.
And its no insult for me to say this. Since people like Reagan don’t come around too often.
That shooting really slowed him down. And his Alzheimers was evident in retrospect by about 1990. Now I don’t know enough about Altzheimers to figure whether he might have had a bit of early onset a few years earlier.
You must understand that this fellow took on the Soviet Union when they had 7000 intercontinental nuclear missiles pointed at him.
So many things he did conservatives thought he was wrong but they JUST LIKED HIM. And one thing that no-one could believe even though he spelled it out many times…….. is that no-one hated nuclear weapons more then him. He HATED them. He hated the fact that his country had carpet-bombed cities in World War II. He hated more then anything this idea of mutually assured destruction.
We may have to come to the conclusion that he sort of coasted through two terms in a sort of diminished (after the shooting) state purely on the enourmous mental capital he’d built up over the years.
Out of Lincoln, Churchill and Reagan I have to push Reagan. Since Reagan set the people free without getting too many people slaughtered.
