Open Cut Mining On Mars.

Bearing in mind that I’m running with the theory that this is from 3-4 million years ago. And only vaguely preserved on grounds of their atmospheric processes being less corrosive than ours.

MiningMars

Now check out this terrific and colourised new photo of the D&M pyramid. I had thought that it looked like a literal pyramid that had collapsed. It still looks like it was an area manipulated by industrial life.  Where I was born, where we saw a flattened hill-top, we knew that this was a former Maori tribal headquarters.

There is a military necessity of capturing the high ground and  the Maoris were so unspeakably violent towards eachother that the result was these flattened hilltops and then the kumaras were grown in the valley on the flats below.  So the maoris, being so powerfully barbaric, likely lived all the time at the high ground at which it was necessary to capture.

In any case there are some things that are just not natural. Flattened hilltops of the scale I’m talking about are one. And the D&M pyramid, 3.5 million years on is another:

Marvellous looking thing isn’t it? We’d have to find out if it is hollow inside. Perhaps infra-red will tell us.  I would bet that it has hollowed areas. But still its so big that its hard to imagine the whole thing being that way.  But supposing it was not hollowed? What was it used for? Anyones guess. One wonders about the specifics of their daily or hourly transport convoys to the home-economy-moon.   Perhaps this is what a low-gravity, thin-atmosphere airstrip looks like for industrial payloads.

COULD AN “AIRSTRIP” ON MARS, FOR REGULAR CARGO-ONLY CONVOYS, REALLY LOOK TOO MUCH DIFFERENT THAN THIS?

Thats not a rhetorical question. I really have just no idea. You cannot get lift-off by travelling horizontally since the air is to thin to provide aerodynamic “LIFT” to the vehicles wings. You want to accelerate the payload, to the greatest degree possible, with the most cost-effective acceleration mechanism you can find, so that its powering at greatest possible speed after losing touch with the rocky ground.

I mean you could have the rockets firing like mad, and giant clouds of exhaust as the thing slowly accelerates straight up into the air……. you can have it like an early 70’s moon-shot. But to my mind that would not be cost-effective and would be burning an enourmous amount of fuel.

So if you wanted to make a lunar-to-home-planet export industry, based on Helium-3, and perhaps platinum, gold, enriched-uranium, and few other refined precious substances….. If you wanted to do that you would want a launch technique that got you as close to escape-velocity as possible, powered from the infrastructure on the ground, with any subsequent acceleration-via-rocketry, just building on the initial low-cost infrastructure-based acceleration.

Look at that extraordinary gully on the other side. If it went all the way around I could imagine a set of rails and some sort of slingshot mechanism. Some sort of magnetic-rail acceleration mechanism perhaps. The gully was not visible, at least to me, in the earlier photos.  And looking at all the angles I still cannot resolve whether it is a pyramid that is collapsed on one side. Which were it the case, could mean that its possible that the gully could have come further around then what it now appears to.  But then these speculations are way beyond my visual perception of it.  Still others are so dim they perceive it to be just a “pile of rocks.”

JUST HOW BIG IS THE D&M PYRAMID?

Its really really big.  Even for Mars’ reduced gravity, it is so big, that if it were a fully-constructed building, like THE GREAT PYRAMID OF GIZA, its sheer size, would bring its stability into question.

Just to get a sense of how huge it is, we could compare it to Walsh’s pyramid at Gordonvale. Which is 922 metres high.  Now thats one big hill.

Walsh's Pyramid

Various google-links are telling me that the great pyramid was about 146 metres tall when completed and is about 137.2 metres tall now.  But google-links are telling me that the D&M pyramid is about a kilometre high. And one site says its between 800 metres and 1000 metres.  For structural stability one wants to multiply the gravity difference factor by three dimensions……….

……….So a 12 foot man, identical in all other respects to a six-foot man and entirely proportional, might be expected to be 4 times as strong yet 8 times as heavy. He would get about with roughly the same ease on a planet with half the gravity. On our planet he would be having a hard time of it.

Hence a building, to have roughly the same structural soundness, given similiar design and materials, on a planet with one third the gravity, ought to be three times as large in all dimensions thus 27 times as massive.

Well the D&M pyramid far outstrips that ratio in relation to the Great Pyramid Of Giza.  The D&M pyramid rather,  is of the same sort of order as the stupendous Walsh’s pyramid, at the wonderful town of Gordonvale.

With the D& M we are talking more like six times the height and more like 200 times the mass, of the Great Pyramid Of Giza, were it made to roughly the same design with roughly the same materials.

So taking this sort of analysis, as a rough starting point, if the D&M pyramid was originally constructed, as a fully functioning industrial manufacturing centre on the inside, one would think that it would need special materials in strategic places to keep the structure sound.  One would imagine that the main supporting areas would need to be made of stronger stuff then just rock.  It could be 98% local rock. But the best guess would be that some of it would need to be made of sterner stuff. Which lends more weight to the idea that it was an altered rock mountain, crafted for some unknown specific purpose.

Still the giant pyramid idea cannot be ruled out.  Because to have a lengthened structure of production, in such a remote outpost, to support agriculture and manufacturing  ……….. and to be the backbone of a mining industry, it might take JUST such a massive centre, given the hostility of the environment, and thus the need to keep a great deal of infrastructure in a tighter space than what we (for example) are used to.

What a bunch of absolute wankers the decision-makers at NASA are. In order to NOT find microscopic life they send technology, only capable of finding life-remnants, to that part of Mars where there is the least likelihood of finding life….. or even anything the least bit interesting.

This would be like some fat-ass posers from Alpha-Centauri, leaching off the taxpayers there, laughing at them, sending a mission to Earth, only capable of detecting macroscopic life, and sending that probe only to inner Antarctica.

Every last one of these NASA-asshats ought to be sacked. After a good whipping and having to serve taxpayers free beer, funded from their own 401K-resources, as pennance for their wrong-doing.

Because if this isn’t a former lunar outpost then obviously we have a great deal more to learn about geology.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

It must be assumed that high-tech civilisations never outgrow double-entry book-keeping and economic science.  In this harsh environment, even though it might be that they were ahead of our current adeptness with technology, it ought not be assumed that they were doing it easy.   The whole setup, or what little is left of it, that we see on Mars, looks like a cost-effective operation.  And operation that was constructed to run at a profit every step of the way.

Science fiction has given us an unreal sense of what the future is all about. I think they were doing-it-tough myself. I think they were struggling to hold their level of technolgy together.

The future is that there is no future without economic science. Economic science tells us that any civilisation that got that far had to be cost-effective about it and had to, as one of its main battles, have been successful at pairing back the level of parasitism, when they reached the technological point where we are now. We will not survive without doing so ourselves. We will all die if we cannot reduce the parasitism from the astonishing level it has reached today. Government-plus-financial-sector, as a proportion of GDR would give us a rough guide of the proportion of parastism, but a great underestimate of the damage done.

If the current level of parasitism is EFFECTIVELY locked in …………. well then, our mass death awaits only, the perfect storm of bad luck.

The other lesson from what we see on Mars is that  civilisations can collapse and die.  In fact they most likely all do in short order for one reason or another. And we puny humans are not out of the woods.

The four horsemen wait behind every passing cloud. They wait for coincidence, serendipity, bloodymindedness and lack of vigilance.

I don’t think they will be waiting long.

  1. Birdie

You think BHP let the lease go up there?

  2. Well isn’t that amazing? A stupid comment from Cambria!!!! Thats just so amazing…….. (not).

You going to come up with a rational argument this time bootnigger? Or are you going to just sit there with egg on your face?

  3. You do realise that the discovery of the remnants of open cut mining on Mars is a big blow to your presumption to knowing everything about the comings and goings in the solar system for millions of years and a winning confirmation of some sort of ancient industrial outposts?

This is how you do it Cambria. If you are not relying on the gift of second site. Or greater-fool-theory-instinct. You put the paradigms in parallel and wait for the new data. In this case the new data launches the industrial life theory, far further ahead of its rival.

  4. looks more like a Rio Tinto mine to me

  5. Stupid Tillman. Stupid stupid Tillman.

The fact of the matter is that when you start up an isolated colony your technology in some ways can regress a millenium.

These people may have had carbon-fibre skyscrapers on the home economy. But the isolated cost-effective Siberia-town would be something else again.

And in any case only large rock structures, for the most part, could survive millions of years.
    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Of course it does Jason. Its just bigger. As befits less gravity and where the crater has already been made for you. On earth its catastrophic meteors that seem to be able to lead to some important metal finds. For example with platinum, it appears that its giant meteor strikes where most of the platinum is. This explains why the uncovered roads on mars alway seem to cut alongside craters.

  6. “oh honey bad news. Due to the GFC the bank won’t lend to us to build a fibro shack. They say we have to use rocks instead.”

    RIGHT….. FIBRO SHACKS ON MARS……. LASTING 4 MILLION YEARS…… ACCOUNTANT APPROVED…..

YOU ARE ONE FUCKING IDIOT TILLMAN.

  7. “Birdie thinks BHP had an open cut mine on Mars now.

He sees another pyramid up there. we’re back to pyramids now.”

Cambria for you. No argument at all. Just lying. The man whom logic forgot. The welfare queen who thinks his money comes from something other than financial sector welfarism.

  8. Rrrriiigggghhhhhhhttttt.

So what is the argument? Now that the data verifies my take on matters. Imagine that hey? Open cut mines as further corroboration.

  9. If you have a massive bulldozer, Carrying its own atmosphere and leave it out in the Mars atmosphere for 3.5 million years, what do you expect to see when you check back? I don’t know whether you would see anything. Some warn engine interiors perhaps. The chemists might be able to tell us something here. Its mainly just large manipulations of stone objects that one would expect to stand the test of time.

  10. Well how about this shape above? Looks real natural don’t it? The weather? Elves? Big crystals?

Don’t say anything DH you are too much of a blockhead.

What about the linked picture that looks like open cut minging? Electrical storms causing strange patterns perhaps?

  11. Birdy,

    Go here

    http://www.msss.com/mars_images/moc/2003/09/15/

to see pictures of this “pyramid” and you will see that they are natural structures.

The “pyramid” has 5 (and not 4) sides, which are far from being planar but are rather ravines.

RIGHT. IT DOESN’T LOOK LIKE A PYRAMID. BUT IT DOESN’T LOOK NATURAL. THE THING IS IF THESE ARE THE REMNANTS OF AN OUTPOST IT COULD BE MILLIONS OF YEARS OLD AND ONE WOULD EXPECT DEGRADATION. THATS ONLY ONE ITEM AND IS NOT TO BE DISAGGREGATED FROM THE OTHERS.

  12. Awesome blog! Google Adsense is an awesome source of income for webmasters, Thanks for the post.Eddiehttp://www.postlinksongoogle.com

  13. Graeme is Mars where you originally came from?

HILARIOUS!!!!! AND WHEN LISA SIMPSON GROWS UP SHE IS GOING TO MARRY A CARROT. SHE ADMITTED IT. PLEASE TRY AND MAKE YOUR PUTDOWNS A LITTLE BIT MORE HIGH-QUALITY THEN PRE-TEEN. IF THATS NOT TO MUCH TO ASK.

NOW I’LL CHECK. BUT IF THE PICTURES ARE STILL THERE THEN THERE REALLY IS NO NEED TO BE IN DENIAL.

NOW I THOUGHT THE MINING ACTIVITY, IF THATS WHAT IT TURNS OUT TO BE, MUST HAVE BEEN FROM MILLIONS OF YEARS AGO. BUT THE EXTRAORDINARY DISCOVERY OF A HUMAN/ALIEN SKULL FROM ONLY 900 YEARS AGO THROWS ALL SUCH ASSUMPTIONS IN THE AIR. IT COULD BE FROM MILLIONS OF YEARS AGO. IT COULD BE MORE RECENT THEN THAT.

THE FIRST STEP TO THE ANALYSIS IS BEING ABLE TO ADMIT WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE. PHIL PLAIT IS COMPLETELY INCAPABLE OF DOING THIS. ANDREW REYNOLDS APPEARS TO BE LEGALLY BLIND. A LOT OF PEOPLE AREN’T EVEN ABLE TO LOOK AT THE PICTURES AND SEPARATE SOME ASSESSMENT OF WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE FROM THEIR FEEBLE BELIEFS. BUT SCIENCE IS TO DO WITH ANALYSIS. WITH METHODOLOGY. IT HAS ALMOST NOTHING TO DO WITH BELIEFS.
